Chiang Mai

After a few days in Bangkok we took the night train up north to the city of Chiang Mai from where we wanted to explore the surroundings with a hired 4 WD.
We went climbing at the Crazy Horse Buttress and drove to Fang, a quiet Thai holiday destination with not a single western tourist (apart from us) and hardly anyone speaking more than one word English. Nevertheless we had a very good time there, especially because people seem to be much more friendly up there! They have hot springs there and pretty full-on 4 WD tracks which we actually couldn’t master since the tires of our rice cooker called Suzuki Vitara gave up …
Back in Chiang Mai I tried to collect my suits (I had ordered three custom made suits from a tailor). The problem: one of the suits didn’t match the ordered fabric but was rather of cheap quality. Finally after some discussions and stories about a daughter that died recently which made him confused and so on (sounds tragic, but somehow still dodgy) I ended up with the money back for one of the suits plus a pair of pants plus enough fabric for a jacket (of the material that I had originally ordered). Not so bad but somehow annoying and it had cost us already a night of sleep.
Anyway, might get another tailor to make me the suit I wanted.
Initially our plan was to fly south to Krabi within the next few days but the weather seems to be terrible, rain without an end. So we’ll have to think about it again.
Okay, so much for tonight, I’d really like to write more consistently but it’s not that easy somehow. Back in Melbourne I’ll find the time hope fully. Same accounts for photos by the way.
