Xi’an und die Terracotta Armee gehören zu den berühmtesten Attraktionen in China. Während Xi’an als Stadt durchaus ihre Reize hat und auch die Tonkrieger beeindruckend anzuschauen sind, hatten mich vor allem die Felsen des Hua Shan gelockt.

China – Yangshuo

Mitte 2011 ging es für ein Jahr nach Suzhou in der Nähe von Shanghai, wo ich an einem grossen Projekt meiner Firma arbeitete. Von dort aus hatte ich Gelegeneheit, weitere Ecken Chinas kennenzulernen. Yangshuo ist eine der wohl bekanntesten Gegenden China’s, zumindest unter Chinesen selbst sowie bei Kletteren, die sich an den vielen Karsthügeln austoben können.

China – Huang Shan

Während meiner ersten Geschäftsreise nach China konnte ich für ein Wochenende den “Gelben Berg” oder Huang Shan besuchen. Bei Traumwetter ging es endlose Treppenstufen hoch und wieder runter. Besonders beeindruckend waren die Träger, die schwerst bepackt die Nahrungsmittel und sonstigen Annehmlichkeiten für Touristen (oder ab und zu auch mal diese selbst) den Berg hinaufschleppten.

Nicht alles in Indien glänzt so schön wie die weissen Mauern des Taj Mahal – eigentlich sogar fast gar nichts, im Gegenteil. Es herrscht Armut und Dreck.

Ebenfalls in Agra liegt etwas abseits vom grossen Touristenstrom der kleine Bruder des Taj Mahal, die Grabstätte Itmad-ud-Daula’s. Durchaus einen Abstecher wert!

In 2010 hatte es mich geschäftlich zweimal nach Indien verschlagen. Beide Male in die Ecke um Bangalore, allerdings konnte ich mir ein klein wenig Zeit nehmen, um auch eines meiner langjährigen Traumziele zu besuchen: den Taj Mahal. Und es hat sich gelohnt, auch nach vielen weiteren Reisen in alle möglichen Ecken dieser Welt gehört der Taj Mahal zu den beeindruckendsten Plätzen, an denen ich mich jemals aufhalten durfte.

In the meanwhile …

Once upon a time I made a promise here on this blog: I promised to resume my activities, post photos and stories of my travels (it seems that since then I have actually removed that post). Well, like with many promises it’s not always that simple to keep them. Especially with facebook making it so easy to share photos, it has been too tempting to neglect this blog and instead simply upload some photos on facebook. And too much has been happening to catch up on all the stories now at once. Add the fact that I am currently on a lager trip that wants to be reported, too.

To shorten the wait until I finally manage to post up-to-date stories, I decided to present a few highlights of the last years with links to the according facebook albums, one every day. And I promise hope that after that I will be able to provide updates about the current trip.

Daily madness in Taiwan

A few weeks back I flew from Korea straight to Taiwan where I’m based in Hsinchu. Funny enough it’s the exact same city I went to during my masters theses about three years ago OMG time’s flying, it has been four years already!
Usually I’m staying at the Sol Hotel which is conveniantly located right downtown.

Six months in South Korea

Initially they said three weeks, then six. Six weeks turned into three months and eventually I ended up staying in South Korea for half a year. An exciting time and in some ways for sure eye-opening – which in my opinion holds true for whenever you live as a stranger in a strange land for a while. I’m now going to try and shed some light on my personal experience with the country and its people as well as provide some general information.
